Calculators and Colds

A random tangent...

Do you feel as though, if a person writes much more tantalizing things while under the influence of some mood altering substance, that he should therefore suscept himself to said substance, rather than try to find this state of mind with a sober being?

Edgar Alan Poe contributed what I consider to be the best works of liturature to our library, while almost constantly under the influence of some mood altering substance. A shame, truly, that he turned to alcohol and drugs after his 18 year old wife of 5 years died. (Now, she was also his cousin, but back then such things were more heard of, don't stop here and get weirded out.) Poe lived such a life, and wrote SUCH impacting tales, that I believe, had he been sober, he'd have written things ten times as great, and written ten times as much, for his life would not have been cut short by alcohol consumption and a selfish fire to fuel with drugs and silly indulgences.

Therefore, my conclusion is this: While you may be much more eccentric or be able to come up with things that SEEM ten times better, they really are not, and it is disturbing to think what good you could be accruing aside from alcohol.

Talk about brain freeze

Well, I haven't posted in a long time. So lately I've been reading, uhm, the best book ever. It's called "Dateable: Are You? Are They?" And it's the best thing to happen to me in forever!! Written by young Justin Lookadoo and Hayley Morgan, it shows negative sides and positive sides of dating relationships in the teen years, and really has a cut-throat policy on the truth. There's no beating around the bush, they just come right out and say what they're thinking. They have the perfect balance with the harsher, realist Justin, and the softer, more sensitive Hayley on their team, and there's no way they can go wrong. While I don't have to 100% agree with ALL of their ideas, they present things in such a way that I haven't had to disagree with anything. They bring forth many common dating mistakes, and advise one in the ways that would be most beneficial to the not only in relationships with a boy or a girl, but with friends, family members, and just life in general. I advise this book to anyone actually, even if you aren't in the teenaged dating scene. It's still a good book to read, to understand these concepts will help you give advice if you are in that position, to sympathize if you're there, or to comprehend what teenagers are going through and how they should be acting during their dating years. A good book to read along side this one is "I Kissed Dating Goodbye" by Joshua Harris. While this book may seem stuffy and straight-laced, it's really different than one would think. Instead of setting standards and rules and saying they are the way to go, no others, he refutes the ideas of the typical date, and replaces dating with something much more substantial. "Dating" has taken a dirty affiliation, filled with backstabbing, people using one another for their own physical or emotional gratification, and other shallow motives on the same level. These books together have given me my newest combined philosophy on life. I have rather recently given up dating for the rest of the year, and supplied an outcome, I will decide whether I want to give it up for another year. It's not decided yet, but I'm praying on it.

My definition of dating and the functions of how it works have definitely changed since I started reading these books, and my life is definitely going to begin to have positive changes. I love that they are based on Christian principles and values too. It's comforting. So yes, I am excited to test my new-found knowledge in every aspect of my life, friendships, employee relationships, family, everything. It's going to be exciting to see how God works through this time, and I am really hoping to get so much closer to Him. Be praying for me, guys! I'll try to update here more!!! Thanks!
