I "Hate" My Red Shirt
A Discovery Lab about:
Music
So when I was in Biology, we used to always have discover labs. These labs had no hypothesis, no real work, in my opinion, nothing more than observing. There were no wrong answers, and these were my favorite. Well, today I stumbled across a new genre of music. It shocked me when I heard it. I saw on a band's page under genre, IDM. I had never heard of this before, ever. I decided to look into it. I found a page describing what it was, and after reading through it, I was puzzled. Then, upon suggestion from the author of the description, I found to Amon Tobin. His music essentially sounds like the base for more of a song. He was my favorite artist out of the list that the author advised, however. Something along the lines of techno, or anything. It was odd because as I listened, I realized as long as there is something aside from silence filling the time, you can do no wrong in this genre. IDM stands for, respectively, Intelligent Dance Music. Evidently the entire point of the music is subjective interpretation. If you hear it and feel like it is just noise, then this genre is not for you. But if you can listen and appreciate each sound as a contribution to the music, then you will enjoy it. I advise you go into listening with an open mind, because if you don't, you will be weirded out.
I had no idea what to expect at first, but after a few seconds, I realized it is nothing more than a series of scratches, beeps, blips, and strange sound effects. The occasional riff on an actual instrument is played here and there, and there is typically on sound or repetition of sounds that carries the song to the end, but honestly, the music is weird.
I personally like it, weird as it is, it's kind of relaxing, though a little creepy. It's entertaining though, because it changes a bit quite often. This is an awesome genre of music in my opinion, and I'm sure that there aren't many people out there who will appreciate it. I'm fairly certain, however, it's a love it or hate it type of music. So I just felt the need to inform all of you who still read this poor abandoned little blog about this genre. It's the rising emo, I'll bet you a dollar. So now I've done my duty and spread the wealth of knowledge. Pass it on.
Didn't like Amon Tobin, or want to hear more? Here is another I enjoyed:

Naming the 5 senses is like naming the 7 dwarfs...
Did you miss me? Little bloggy, so lonely.
Oh, talking to my blog not normal, haha! Anyways, so I got the best present for my birthday this year. Yep, you guessed it, how'd you know it was a Monkey?! Just kidding... it was a Magon...
So I got a drumset! :) It's shiney and red and gorgeous, I love it. I'm also having an awesome birthday shindig today. Should be tops.. Anyone planning on crashing it? Yeah, hopefully it'll be fun, I think it will be. And my cousins Kelly and Scott and their kids Jacob and Jenna are here, and they will also be celebrating for Scott's birthday. It should be fun.
So lately I've seen a lot of movies for no evident reason. I just love to.
Monday I saw Nacho Libre... not too detestable a movie. I saw it with my friend Aaron and Ashley.
Tuesday I saw Pirates of the Carribean with my friends Randy, Chantelle, and someone of their friends.
Wednesday I saw The Lakehouse with my friend Bryan.
Yesterday I was going to try to see a movie with a few friends, but it was kinda like a hot pocket situation..
So Monday I go back to work for the first time in about two weeks, and usually after so long, I look forward to going back, but oddly enough I'm still dreading it. I want another job so much, I think my memory is bleeding thinking back over the last year. It's not that the job I have now is so terrible that I can't cope, and I feel EXCESSIVELY blessed that I DO have a job, not to mention the ability to even work, but I am just so tired. Mike keeps putting me on stations where he KNOWS I am unhappy, and he doesn't seem to take me seriously when I say that I cannot continue on in them, so if he won't value my employment, and he won't help me out, then there's really nothing left at that store for me. Even if I do change stations, I already know what my manager counts my being there for. It's unfortunate, but I'm excited to go to a different field anyways. I'd love to waitress. If I can, on Tuesday I'm going to go check up on my applications. I don't know my schedule yet though, so we will see.
Well, I think I've labored over that topic long enough. I like when people spell labor as labour. It looks better. So as you might have read from my last post, I did end up getting to go to Hume Lake this year. By a sudden twist of God's Will. One of the girls broke her foot in water polo about a week before I was to leave.. Is that unbelievable or what? I felt terrible for the girl, but something tells me that God wanted me there. And I learned so many amazing things while I was there. I just love being up there, and having those memories to keep for the rest of my life is just absolutely amazing. I'm trying to go one more year as a camper. That place is just so different. It's nice getting away from every electronic, personal, and emotional stressor of everywhere else, and just go to this fairly small, entirely secluded mountain top. I woke up every morning around 5:30 to watch the sunrise, then I'd go to either dawn patrol (a very small group of people in a small chapel they have with one of the band members leading worship) or I'd go to breakfast and then chapel, or they had a small version of worship in the big Ponderosa Chapel, but still, most of the people were there because they wanted to be, that's what makes it different. It's sad to see just how much things like that shrink the group, but it's awesome at the same time, to be there in that setting.
So after chapel, we had recreation... Definitely not my favorite time some days because the games are physical murder. You dive, jump, and fall alot. You get wet, muddy, and sweaty. It was fun, but definitely tiring and gets you dirty, and often times hurt. After recreation, we had lunch. After that was free time. Five glorious hours of it. Sometimes I'd work on my Bible verses, I'd go swimming in the pool, I'd walk about a mile or so to the cove with friends, there were plenty of things to keep us entertained, those are only a couple. Then after free time, we had dinner, then chapel, a little more free time, then head to the cabins. It was a great week. I'm so glad I was able to go.

A Worthy Post, I Think
So I learned alot at Hume Lake this year. Treasuring your friends, doing the most you can with that which God gave you. It was all based on the parable of the talents.
But that's not even the thing that had the most impact on me, while it was excessively useful.
So what I learned the most from was actually one of the seminars. It was called, "5 Tips for a Match Made in Heaven."
It was, obviously, broken into five parts.
The first thing our speaker stated was
Know Your Worth
The way she put it was that girls let guys use them and then throw them away because that is all the girl feels she is worth. The illustration was that girls are not styrofoam cups, you can't just use them and then throw them out. She said girls are more like fragile wine glasses, something you'll treat well, and be upset if something happens to it.
The next point was
Have Some Respect
This was more along the lines of don't throw your emotions at every guy that walks by, and make the boy pursue you.
The third,
Choose Your Bait Wisely
If you want a guy who is Godly, intelligent, respectful, etc., then you first have you become those things yourself.
The fourth was
Have A Vision
Have an idea of what you want your relationship to look like, and develop the vision through having a mentor, reading books, and reading the Bible. (Proverbs 4:23)
The last point was
Bring God Glory
Basically what this means is make God look good. She described it as being similar to the olympics. When you are competing, if you have bad sportsmanship, you make your home country look bad, but if you are a good sport, you make your home country look good. As well as your teammates. God is our home country, and our brothers and sisters in Christ are our teammates.
So that was basically the most prominent thing I learned this year at Hume Lake, and honestly, it's an awesome thing if you actually realize it. Another thing our speaker said is that most girls are not content being single, and if we as Christian girls were content, that would truly show un-believers there is something so different about us.
